The Traveling Bench Chief Engineer is a key leadership role responsible for supporting hotel engineering and maintenance operations across a portfolio of properties. Position requires some out of state travel. This position will focus on training and mentoring on-site Maintenance Managers assisting with capital project planning and bidding conducting quality control inspections (including completed preventive maintenance work) and supporting hotel renovation projects. The role also plays a critical part in delivering technical training in areas such as HVAC systems and general property maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
Training & Support
- Provide hands-on and remote training to new and existing Maintenance Managers to ensure they understand company standards safety protocols and technical procedures.
- Develop and deliver training sessions on HVAC systems energy management and preventive maintenance.
- Act as a mentor and resource for property-level engineering staff.
Quality Assurance & Preventive Maintenance
- Inspect rooms and equipment that have undergone preventive maintenance to ensure compliance with brand and company standards.
- Identify maintenance and safety issues and work with property teams to resolve them.
- Recommend improvements in maintenance practices and tools.
Project Management & Renovation Support
- Assist hotel teams with planning bidding and executing CapEx and renovation projects.
- Review bids from contractors and vendors to ensure scope compliance and cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor ongoing renovations and provide technical oversight and progress updates to leadership.
Operational Support
- Assist with troubleshooting major mechanical electrical and plumbing (MEP) issues.
- Conduct periodic property assessments and contribute to corporate reporting and planning.
- Recruiting for Bench Maintenance Positions.
- Step in during property-level vacancies or crises to provide interim engineering leadership.
- Travel to all hotels in the portfolio to support the maintenance effort on an interim basis
- Maintain a friendly cheerful and courteous demeanor always
- Respond and attend to guests repair requests
- Communicate with guest/customers to resolve maintenance issues
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance in guest rooms meeting rooms and/or public spaces a required including flipping/inspecting mattresses box springs and assembling bed frames
- Visually inspect tools equipment or machines
- Display above average engineering operations skills and strong general mechanical ability
- Display advanced knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge in the following categories: air conditioning and refrigeration electrical mechanical plumbing carpentry and finish skills kitchen equipment energy conservation and/or general building
- Perform all surface preparation painting minor drywall and wood trip repair light bulb and A/C filter replacement and complete thorough clean-up of painting or repair area
- Inspecting and repairing grout and caulking
- Maintain pool chemicals and pool equipment
- Test troubleshoot and perform basic repair on all types of equipment (i.e. plunge toilets change toilet seats and unclog drains) electrical components including lamps cosmetic items extension cords vacuum cleaners internet devices replace electrical switches and outlets and other guestroom items. Program TVs and perform general housekeeping and engineering-related inventory duties.
- Use the Lockout/Tagout system before performing maintenance work
- Follow company safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents injuries and unsafe work conditions
- Protect company assets
- Develop relationships with all departments and communicate regularly
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification in engineering HVAC or related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in hotel engineering/maintenance with at least 2 years in a leadership or Chief Engineer role.
- Prior multi-property or regional experience is a strong plus.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong working knowledge of hotel engineering systems: HVAC electrical plumbing boilers life safety etc.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings blueprints and technical specifications.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- This role requires standing and walking for long periods of time or entire shift.
- Grasp turn and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Move lift carry push pull and place objects weighing less than 50 pounds without assistance and heavier lifting or movement tasks with assistance.
- Move up and down stairs service ramps and/or ladders.
- Reach overhead and below knees including bending twisting pulling and stooping.
- Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.
