The department is seeking a professional interested in contributing their expertise to teach in the Massage Therapy Diploma.
Business of Massage Therapy
- Winter 2026 (Jan. 7 - Apr. 16)
- This course will be online. The instructor is responsible for instruction using the approved curriculum implementation of applicable curriculum assessment measures and marking and submitting final course grades. The instructor will also be required to maintain regular contact with the administration team and adhere to program policies and deadlines. Students in this class are part of the Massage Therapy Diploma Program.
- This course will help students learn about the organization and operational aspects of a massage therapy practice. They will explore how to develop a business plan that includes feasibility marketing financial and operational components. Delve into basic accounting principles for a service-based business and be introduced to the accounting cycle. Technical writing skills are examined and prepare students for effective business writing. Students will also examine the differences between business models contractor vs employee and incorporation vs sole proprietorship.
Responsibilities
Instruction:
- Lesson preparation (record video lectures etc.)
- Course delivery
- Marking/grading
- Course outline preparation
- Facilitate course delivery using approved curriculum and learning materials
- Review and revision of course assessments
- An online instructor is required to access the course daily; however there are no predetermined times of the day an instructor is required to be online. Online instructors must have reliable internet service throughout the entire period of the course.
- Reply to students within 24-48 hours.
Administration:
- Marking and submission of course grades
- Maintain regular contact with the program administrative team
- Participate in virtual instructor meetings and individual meetings with the program coordinator as required
- Participate in meetings and adhere to university policies and deadlines
Qualifications
- Post-secondary credential in a related field
- Proficient understanding of the Inter-Jurisdictional Practice Competencies and Performance Indicators for Massage Therapists at Entry-to-Practice.
- Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to apply them effectively in instructional settings
- Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with accreditation
- Instructional experience in an adult education environment is an asset
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
- Proficiency with the D2L learning management system is an asset
