Job Description:

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking a talented and highly motivated part-time Network Automation & Infrastructure Intern to join the Enterprise Network Security & Engineering team a unit within UFIT for 2026 (Spring Summer and Fall 2026 Semesters). This year-long paid internship is designed to provide students currently enrolled in college an opportunity to learn practical skills and gain experience to propel them into a successful career in Information Technology.

Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other dedicated employees focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Floridas innovative and inspirational community.

This position is part of the Enterprise Network Security and Engineering (ENSE) team a group responsible for designing securing and maintaining UFs core network infrastructure. The intern will work closely with senior engineers on projects that modernize and automate network operations. The intern will also assist in the development and automation of network infrastructure tasks using Python Ansible and other scripting languages.

The primary work location is the Ayers Innovation Center a collaborative space that fosters innovation and technical excellence across UFIT.

Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:

  • Have a solid understanding of data serialization formats like JSON/YAML/TOML
  • Support configuration management and version control using Git/Gitlab
  • Have a base understanding of generic networking principles such as TCP/IP subnetting routing switching DHCP/DNS/IPAM
  • Proficient in the use of documentation tools to document network architecture workflows and security policies
  • Participate in testing and validation of network changes in lab environments through automation tools
  • Collaborate with senior engineers on infrastructure modernization and code-based tooling
  • Analyze network performance data and assist in reporting and visualization

Expected Salary:

$15.00 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

The ideal candidate will possess the following education experience and skills:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Computer Science Information Systems Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Have an understanding of version control (Git) CI/CD systems (Gitlab) and containerzation (Docker)
  • Familiarity with network management protocols such as SNMP NETCONF RESTCONF gNMI/gRPC
  • Exposure to network automation tools (e.g. Ansible Terraform) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts is a plus
  • Exposure to single page application JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular React) is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
