Job Description

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) a member of the Texas A&M University System welcomes applicants for a/anAssistant or Associate Professor of Sociology to beginFall 2026.

TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8000 students located in Laredo Texas a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery teaching and learning community engagement and public service and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. For more information please visit is a9-month tenure-track or tenured position (depending on qualifications). Primary duties will includeteaching undergraduate and graduate courses conducting research and mentoring students. A reduced load (2-2 for the first 2 years plus research funds and conference travel money) is provided to new tenure-track hires to allow them to focus on conducting research and publishing in scholarly journals. Course buyouts are available when tied to grants or grant funding obtained by faculty. Duties also includeserving on departmental college university and professional committees as needed; and actively participating in departmental college and university initiatives. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The successful candidate must hold aPhD in Sociology or a related field. Candidates who are ABD will also be considered but must have earned their degree before August 16 2026. All specializations will be considered but high preference will be given to those with expertise in health/illness education migration and/or quantitative research methods. Candidates applying to the Associate Professor position must have a well-established research agenda as demonstrated through a significant amount of scholarly publications and/or grant awards. We strongly encourage candidates with demonstrated research and teaching skills a publication record in peer-reviewed journals or the clear potential to publish in top scholarly journals and prior record and experience with seeking and/or securing external grant funding. Those candidates applying for the Associate position must have a proven and demonstrated record of scholarly activities. Tenure in the Texas A&M University System can only be awarded by the Board of Regents.
