Job Summary

The Queens County District Attorneys Office is looking for applicants to fill full-time entry level Trial Preparation Assistant (TPA) positions within our office.

Trial Preparation Assistants have a wide array of responsibilities that may differ depending upon bureau assignment. Generally TPAs assist Assistant District Attorneys with preparing cases at all stages. This work may involve interviewing members of the New York City Police Department as well as victims and/or witnesses in order to create affidavits; gathering creating and compiling the paperwork required to create case files; drafting legal documents and correspondence; obtaining necessary evidence/documentation relating to cases from outside sources; identifying locating communicating and scheduling various witnesses; coordinating travel arraignments; assisting attorneys in the courtroom; conducting legal research and writing; handling Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) and exhibit requests.

Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements:

Bachelors Degree preferred in Criminal Justice Paralegal Studies or related area or equivalent education and/or experience. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience as a paralegal legal assistant or in another similar capacity or candidates with an A.B.A. approved paralegal certificate. All candidates must have at least a high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

TPAs must have excellent written and verbal communication skills the ability to interact with staff at all levels and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing demands. Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach including strong follow-up skills accuracy and the ability to meet deadlines is also required.

Job Details:

SCHEDULES VARY BASED UPON THE NEEDS OF THE BUREAU

STARTING SALARY (NON-NEGOTIABLE): $55000; upon completion of two years of continuous service salary: $60000.
