Purpose of Job
The SNR Artisan Mechanical Fitter forms part of a centralized maintenance team providing a maintenance service on the highspeed rotating equipment for the various BU throughout Sasolburg Operations. The maintenance service varies from running maintenance (filteretc.) up to full integrity inspections / Full Overhaul of the equipment.
Key Accountabilities
Operational Financial and Technical Results:
Installation of mechanical seals
Laser alignment
Balancing (would be beneficial)
Fault finding on auxiliary systems
Knowledge of ISO 18000 safety standards / similar safety systems
Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 quality management system
Maintenance on Positive displacement compressors (Recip & Screw).
Work in accordance with quality plans and work procedures.
Fault finding on rotating equipment as well as auxiliary systems (eg drip feedersstuffing box / valve leakage detection
Be conversant with the technical parameters governing reciprocating compressor maintenance regarding crank case overhaul and alignment web deflection conrod crosshead installation / line outs. Wear part replacement / inspections mechanical seal installation bearing clearances gaskets alignment and protection devices.
Complete overhaul of screw compressors.
Have an understanding on the functioning of a refrigeration plant / process to facilitate compressor faultfinding.
Work according to CMMS SAP work orders (or similar)

Communicate with customer concerning machine condition defects as/when required.

Suggest and implement innovative ideas to make work faster simpler better.
Assist with engineering out problematic areas on equipment (eliminating root causes of failures)
General
Knowledge of basic process of plant
Attention to detail
Understand the interaction between rotating equipment and Process
Must be able to do standby and work overtime
Formal Education
Grade 12 with Maths and Science or N3 with Maths
Science and Language NQF Level 4
Qualified as an Artisan Fitter NQF4 (Sasol or Olifantsfontein) (MUST) NQF Level 4
Valid Code 8 drivers licence (MUST)
Work Experience
Minimum 5 years of hands on experience maintaining high speed rotating equipment (turbines / compressors).
Specific experience needed:
- Reciprocating compressors
- Screw Compressors
- Positive displacement pumps
- Centrifugal pumps (single and multi-stage)
