  • Certified Alberta Journeyperson in the trade of Refrigeration Mechanic or equivalent certification recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training
  • Minimum of 5 years of journeyperson experience performing preventative maintenance on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including working directly with ammonia and freon ice making equipment

Assets:

  • HVAC experience
  • Chiller experience
  • Ammonia experience

Skills required for success:

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard methods practices materials tools and equipment used in the air conditioning and refrigeration trade
  • Strong understanding of the rules and codes controlling refrigeration and air conditioning trade
  • Strong understanding of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
  • Familiarity with the work of related trades such as plumbing and gas fitting
  • Capable to locate leaks in refrigeration and air conditioning lines
  • Proficient in using testing equipment and a variety of hand and power tools to complete work tasks
  • Accurately interprets drawings and blueprints and follow written and/or verbal instructions to mount or place system components
  • Prioritizes and completes work tasks independently as well as work well with others
  • Utilizes computer-based building management systems including basic knowledge of Google
  • Workspace (Gmail Calendar Docs Sheets etc)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator and compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement of this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as wearing steel toed boots is a requirement for this position
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • Physical ability to perform medium to heavy manual labour such as moving heavy equipment lifting and bending in various weather and environmental conditions such as extreme heat and at heights

Are you an experienced professional in the refrigeration and air-conditioning trade If so we have an exciting opportunity for you!

As a journeyperson level Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Technician you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including installation construction maintenance repair and overhauling of air conditioning and refrigeration systems along with their component parts. Your expertise will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency reliability and safety of HVAC systems. All assigned tasks must be carried out with a strong commitment to safety and environmental sustainability.

What will you do

  • Performs preventative maintenance repairs overhauls and installations of central air conditioning stand alone air conditioning refrigerated ammonia or freon ice plants refrigerated concession or kitchen equipment in civic owned and leased or operated facilities
  • Completes tasks on schedule
  • Inspects and services water air conditioning and refrigeration systems diagnosing system conditions and adjusting cleaning repairing and/or replacing equipment components as required
  • Services and washes out cooling towers condenser coils and performs maintenance on associated systems
  • Performs leak checks on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including calibrations and setting up pneumatic and electronic ice plant controls
  • Responds to and troubleshoots emergency and issue calls for all systems listed above
  • Maintains an inventory of tools and materials
  • Documents materials and parts utilized at various job sites
  • Replenishes materials and parts as needed
  • Actively participates in safety training and meetings provides technical information upon request and operates a service vehicle
