Job Summary

The Oncology Dietitian reflects the mission vision and values of NM adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Oncology clinical dietitians (RDs) provide nutritional consultation to cancer patients across the continuum of the cancer experience including prevention treatment recurrence palliative care and survivorship.

This position will support both Delnor Hospital Cancer Center and the Warrenville Cancer Center

 

Responsibilities:

  • Establish priorities for nutrition-care delivery based on urgency and complexity of nutrition interventions.
  • Develop implement monitor and evaluate the nutrition services provided to cancer center patients.
  • Implement nutrition screening system for cancer patients on their first visit.
  • Provide individualized nutrition assessments counseling and nutrition recommendations based on patients specific therapies and nutrition needs.
  • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team tumor boards.
  • Assess nutrition needs of patients in Specialty Clinics as appropriate.
  • Provide ongoing nutrition education including classes and in-services for staff addressing nutrition topics and research pertinent to cancer patients.
  • Collaborate with other health professionals as appropriate and develop nutrition education and resource materials as needed.
  • Attend education programs to maintain status as effective and knowledgeable resource regarding patients nutrition needs.
  • Maintain in-depth body of knowledge of food and human nutrition unique to cancer and its treatment and integrate this knowledge of that from other disciplines including health and social sciences education communication and management.
  • Collaborate with other health-care professionals to ensure nutrition screening mechanisms are consistently identifying patients at risk.
  • Provide nutrition interventions in a proactive manner that may include assessment client-centered goals appropriate follow-up and communication with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Actively participate in facility-based continuing education and training activities regarding oncology issues and practices.
  • Provide needs-based education supervise and mentor RDs and evaluate effectiveness of educational activities.

Qualifications :

Required:

  • Bachelors degree with registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Licensure by the State of Illinois.
  • Registration and licensure status with a solid knowledge of clinical nutrition with emphasis on nutrition needs of cancer patients.
  • Excellent counseling skills and the ability to relate to a multi-ethnic community and varied learning levels.
  • Ability and interest to develop and implement nutrition education programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive working relationships with multidisciplinary team providing patients comprehensive care and with support of service departments.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer usage in the workplace and good verbal/writing skills.
  • Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process as it relates to the nutrition needs of cancer patients and ability to apply all steps of the process.
  • Knowledge of the Assessment Data Intervention Monitoring and Evaluation (ADIME) charting formator willingness to learn format.

Preferred:

  • 1 year of oncology experience.
