Job Title: Air Pressure Technician
Position Summary
The Air Pressure Technician is responsible for the installation maintenance and monitoring of air pressure systems used to protect telecommunications cable networks from moisture and environmental damage. This position ensures optimal air pressure is maintained in pressurized cable systems identifies and repairs leaks and supports network reliability through proactive maintenance and emergency response.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain air pressure systems for pressurized cable networks including central office and remote site equipment.
- Install calibrate and service air dryers compressors manifolds and alarm systems.
- Conduct regular inspections and testing of pressurized cable routes to detect and repair air leaks.
- Maintain accurate records of air pressure readings maintenance activities and repairs.
- Respond to air pressure alarms troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform corrective actions to restore normal operation.
- Coordinate with network maintenance and construction teams to support system upgrades or relocations.
- Ensure all work meets company safety policies industry standards and applicable regulations.
- Maintain tools vehicles and testing equipment in proper working condition.
- Provide after-hours or on-call support as required.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in telecommunications field maintenance or related technical field.
- Prior experience with pressurized cable systems or pneumatic equipment is highly desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Understanding of air pressure systems compressors and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret cable route maps schematics and technical diagrams.
- Proficient in the use of leak detection tools and pressure monitoring equipment.
- Strong problem-solving diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with maintenance management systems.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform work in various outdoor conditions.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights when required.
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
Work Environment
This position involves fieldwork in various weather conditions driving between sites and occasional work in central offices or remote equipment huts. On-call or after-hours response may be required during system outages or emergencies.
