Job Summary

Position Description

The Department of Human Kinetics at St. Francis Xavier University invites applications for a probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 1 2026. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

For this position the Department seeks applicants with a foundational background in anatomy and exercise science (e.g. an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology or related field) and a PhD with a specialization in rehabilitation sciences.

The successful candidate will be responsible to develop and teach a 200-level Functional (i.e. structural) Anatomy course. This course will become a required course for all our Human Kinetics students in their second year.

Ideally the successful candidate will develop additional HKIN elective courses on topics related to their area(s) of expertise such as: Rehabilitation and Chronic Disease Ergonomics and Professional Injury etc.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program and to seek external funding individually and/or in collaboration with others. Additionally the successful candidate should develop an equitable diverse and inclusive teaching and research approach to promote a respectful environment for all students staff and faculty.

About the Department of Human Kinetics

Human Kinetics students pursue a four-year integrated program that focuses onhuman body movementfrom a variety of perspectives (athletic therapy biomechanics disability exercise physiology gender growth health history motor control philosophy physical education sociology psychology). Students are well-preparedafter graduation to enter the workforce apply to professional programs (e.g. Education Physiotherapy or Occupational therapy) or Medical school or pursue Graduate Studies.
