About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists to join our team of Aquarists at SEA LIFE Kelly Tarltons Aquarium.
The Full Time Assistant Aquarist position involves assisting the Curatorial department with the day to day running of the aquarium; also involves working primarily with salt and freshwater fish habitats.
The aquarium is home to a variety of freshwater and saltwater fish crustaceans Tuatara and Penguins as well as acting as a rehabilitation facility for marine sea Turtles. You will have the chance to not only care for these amazing animals but also to promote education and conservation through providing a unique experience for our visitors.
About You
Mandatory Requirements:-
- Exceptional attention to detail and delivery of immaculately clean displays
- Excellent observation organisational record keeping and communication skills
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable including making the most of a challenging or unfamiliar environment
- Current New Zealand working rights
- Ability to bend/Stoop; Squat; Crawl; Crouch; Kneel; Balance; Climb Heights (4m); Carry and Lift up to 30kg
Desirable Requirements:-
- SCUBA certification of Rescue Diver Dive Master DiveInstructor or commercial diving qualification.
- The ability to pass and maintain an occupational dive medical certification
- Knowledge and practical experience within the aquarium industry
- Marine animal husbandry knowledge
- First Aid and/ or Oxygen Resuscitation training
- Computer skills using MS Office and Excel
You are an exceptional communicator are solution focused and are able to use your experience to work well in a successful and collaborative team. You have a flexible and adaptable approach along with high attention to detail and demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills.
