About the job

Advantra is partnering with an early stage computational biology startup in San Francisco to hire a Founding Software Engineer to scale and maintain core infrastructure for drug discovery software.

About the role

You will build and maintain the infrastructure that powers web and API products for drug discovery. You will work with founders to design implement and scale systems based on customer needs. You will interact directly with customers and take ownership of features that serve their requests.

Responsibilities

Design build and maintain web interfaces and API products.
Collaborate with founders to architect scalable computational biology infrastructure.
Implement AWS DevOps solutions including EC2 S3 DynamoDB and Docker.
Manage MLOps workflows including CUDA Conda TensorFlow and PyTorch.
Take customer feedback to drive feature development and product improvements.
Troubleshoot and optimize system performance across frontend and backend.
Write clean maintainable code and documentation for internal and external use.
Learn and adapt to diverse technical challenges including HPC and automated model tuning.
Evaluate and integrate new tools or technologies to support scaling.

Core requirements

3 years software engineering experience with full stack or backend focus.
2 years experience with AWS DevOps and cloud infrastructure.
1 year experience with MLOps frameworks and GPU workloads.
Experience building and maintaining web applications using React or similar frameworks.
Experience designing APIs and integrating backend systems.
Ability to take full ownership of features from design to production.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across diverse systems.
Experience in fast-paced startup or small engineering teams.
Willingness to learn computational biology and Bio-ML models.
Located in or willing to relocate to the SF Bay Area.

Nice to have

Experience with AI/ML models across different architectures.
HPC batch processing and automated model tuning.
Experience with Vercel or similar deployment platforms.
Knowledge of containerization and orchestration concepts.
Advanced familiarity with TensorFlow PyTorch or CUDA optimization.
