About the job

Advantra is partnering with an early stage cybersecurity startup in San Francisco to hire an AI Research Engineer to develop intelligent models that improve firmware security analysis.

About the role

You will design and implement machine learning models and algorithms to detect diagnose and predict vulnerabilities in embedded software. You will work closely with founders and customers to build AI-driven frameworks that automate analysis simulate exploits and provide actionable insights. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of research and production-ready systems from design and coding to testing and deployment.

Responsibilities

Design and implement ML architectures to interpret binary firmware data.
Curate datasets train models and deploy AI solutions in production.
Research deep learning models to detect patterns and anomalies in firmware.
Build AI-driven frameworks to simulate potential attack scenarios.
Develop algorithms to trace firmware vulnerabilities and provide remediation insights.
Participate in architecture design and code reviews for robust solutions.
Develop prototypes to validate design concepts and technical constraints.
Gather customer feedback to improve models and system performance.
Document research findings algorithms and model performance.

Core requirements

3 years professional experience in machine learning AI or software engineering.
Proficiency in Python C C or Rust.
Experience designing and deploying ML models in production environments.
Familiarity with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
Strong understanding of algorithms data structures and systems programming.
Ability to work directly with customers and incorporate feedback.
Experience in fast-paced startup or small engineering team environments.
Strong problem-solving debugging and performance optimization skills.
Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Located in or willing to relocate to the SF Bay Area.

Nice to have

Experience with transformer-based models or LLMs for pattern recognition.
Knowledge of firmware architecture reverse engineering or binary analysis.
Research experience in ML deep learning or NLP applied to security.
Prior experience in device security and reverse engineering.
Experience building AI-driven security tools for embedded systems.

Compensation

Competitive base plus equity.
