Position Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to join our night shift team. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical judgment a calm demeanor and the ability to provide trauma-informed care to children and adolescents experiencing mental health crises. Experience in child/adolescent psychiatric CPEP (Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program) or behavioral health settings is required.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct psychiatric nursing care to pediatric and adolescent patients with acute psychiatric and behavioral health needs.
Conduct patient assessments implement treatment plans and monitor responses in collaboration with psychiatrists therapists and social workers.
Promote a safe therapeutic and structured environment consistent with evidence-based behavioral care practices.
Administer medications and manage side effects according to physician orders and hospital protocols.
De-escalate crises using approved verbal and physical intervention techniques adhering to CPI or PMCS certification standards.
Participate actively in multidisciplinary treatment planning and discharge coordination.
Ensure precise and timely documentation using EPIC EMR systems.
Support family education and involvement in the therapeutic process.
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Associate degree may be considered only with relevant experience or active matriculation in a BSN program.
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or PMCS (Prevention and Management of Crisis Situations) Required before or upon hire.
Licensure: Current Registered Nurse license in New York State.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of child/adolescent psychiatric nursing or CPEP experience required.
Compliance: SEL and SCR forms required for onboarding.
Skills and Competencies
Expertise in child and adolescent behavioral health nursing practice.
Ability to recognize early signs of escalation and apply de-escalation interventions effectively.
Strong therapeutic communication and interpersonal skills with youth and families.
Ability to manage patient care in a 20 29 bed unit under 1:6 staffing guidelines.
Proficient in EPIC EMR and electronic documentation systems.
Emotionally resilient safety-conscious and team-oriented professional capable of calm crisis management.
