• sealing foundations with damp-resistant materials and spreading layers of mortar and or Concrete to serve as base and binder for blocks using trowels
• laying bricks & Bluestone kerbs in rows designs and shapes and spreading mortar between joints
• embedding blocks or Stones in mortar and or Concrete removing excess mortar
• checking vertical and horizontal alignment
• cutting shaping and polishing stones and bricks using machines and hand tools and shaping bricks to fit irregular spaces
• designing and cutting monumental masonry Kerbs and stones in lettering
• constructing walls using stone slabs and large masonry slab blocks

The Stonemasons will lay bricks pre-cut stones and other types of building blocks in mortar or Concrete to construct and repair walls partitions blue stone Kerbs arches and other structures. They will cut and shape hard and soft stone blocks and masonry slabs for the construction and renovation of stone structures Inc Heritage works

Nga pūkenga matua Important Skills

You will need at least 3 years of relevant work experience OR a relevant qualification at Level 4 or higher on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF).

Key Tasks:

Experience & Qualifications required for the role:

• Level 4 qualification (trade certificate diploma) OR at least 3 years of relevant experience can replace a formal qualification if no qualification
• Formal qualification is desired but can be replaced by suitable work experience.
• Effective communication skills.
• Desirable to have experience in the civil contracting industry
• Experience in specialized concrete and form work
• Desirable to have finished concrete work to pre-cast finishing standard
• A proven track record of working constructively within a team
• Able to deal with unexpected events/make decisions and take and provide direction well
• Zero harm focus
• Organized and systematic approach to working environment
• Good communication skills
