Summary of the R&D Intern

We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our R&D at Axogen for at least the Spring and Summer 2026 semesters. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance for a dynamic professional hands-on experience of new product development and testing. The intern will get a unique look into the benefits of working within a smaller biomedical company with high visibility within the company. The R&D intern will support non-clinical research projects in our Tampa FL HQ. This is an in-office/lab internship.

Requirements ofthe R&D Intern

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program preferably in Biomedical Engineering Neuroscience or other related degree.
  • Ability to work 4-6 hours a day and at least 15 hours per week (Monday Thursday); specific days/hours will be based on the students class load and schedule.
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Experience with software (MATLAB ImageJ (Figi) Cell Profiler or similar).
  • Can work with research animals can handle tissue and not afraid of seeing blood.
  • Basic knowledge of biology immunohistochemistry exposure to histology ELISA and biomedical engineering.
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills
  • Basic computer skills use of Microsoft Office Excel and basic data analysis are desirable
  • Good teamwork skills and a respectful attitude are desirable
  • Ability to independently follow protocols and instructions is desirable
  • Good organization and time management skills are desirable

Project Details

The intern will support non-clinical research new idea evaluation and other projects which may involve assisting with surgical procedures preparing for surgical procedures performing histology image analysis using appropriate software working with human and animal tissues performing histology slide staining using immunohistochemistry learn how to scan histology slides and extract images. The work may require using a sterile technique working in the biosafety cabinet using a microscope and other laboratory equipment.

Benefits/Compensation

The anticipated base wage for this position is $18/hr for an undergrad student and $20/hr for a grad addition to the base hourly rate there may be a housing stipend available based on location. Interns who are 21 years of age or older are eligible for 401K.
