Job Summary

The Arizona State University (ASU) Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation () invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position with ASU Roybal Center for Older Adults Living Alone with Cognitive Decline under the mentorship and supervision of Fang Yu ( Professor and Edson Chair in Dementia Translational Nursing Science. This fellowship offers an outstanding mentored research and professional development experience focused on lifestyle interventions and clinical trials in Alzheimers disease (AD) and related dementias. The successful candidate will gain hands-on training in advanced research methods community and clinical partnership development and key professional skills including manuscript preparation project management and grant writing.

Edson College offers a rich interprofessional research mentoring and teaching environment with unique and growing transdisciplinary Ph.D. and Ph.D./DNP programs and several centers that encompass health promotion and disease prevention; mindfulness compassion and resilience; interprofessional practice education and research; and healthy and resilient aging. The college received a 25 million dollar gift to name the college and coalesce our focus on aging studies gerontology family caregiving and dementia care taking research from the bench to the bedside and care delivery from the acute setting to the clinic and into the home. We launched our new Center for Innovation in Healthy and Resilient Aging a few years ago with great success and substantially expanded our faculty with aging-related research agendas including those with cognitive decline in mid- and later-life dementia care and family caregiving expertise. CIHRA is an interdisciplinary and interprofessional endeavor to promote research training and education that helps solve challenges in aging.

Edson College faculty collaborate across professions other colleges and universities and have current or recent funding from NIH PCORI the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education HRSA Department of Defense the Veterans Administration the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation and several other local regional and national organizations. Edson College faculty also collaborate with a wide-ranging group of community and healthcare organizations to improve the economic social and cultural health and vitality of shared local state national and global communities. Examples of these organizations include Mayo Clinic Banner Health Dignity Health HonorHealth and the Phoenix VA Health Care System.

The position is based at ASUs Downtown Phoenix campus and is open to applicants seeking full-time fellowship appointments. The fellowship term is up to two years with continuation into the second year contingent upon satisfactory progress and funding availability. Examples of Essential Duties

  • Fellowship duties will involve a combination of the following activities: contributing to the development and submission of grant proposals; leading and supporting manuscript preparation and data analysis for peer-reviewed publications; designing implementing and disseminating research related to lifestyle interventions and aging; developing and delivering academic and community presentations; and fostering effective communication and collaboration within interdisciplinary research teams.

Expectations

  • The fellow will engage in the full lifecycle of research funding activities including identifying grant opportunities preparing proposals coordinating with collaborators and managing submission timelines.
  • Play a key role in manuscript development by conducting data analyses synthesizing literature coordinating with co-authors and preparing materials for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Develop and present research findings through posters talks and community presentations while also supporting and providing feedback on colleagues presentations.
  • Deliver tailored exercise interventions to participants monitor and adjust sessions as needed document activities in REDCap and report any deviations or adverse events.
  • Assist in launching and carrying out new research studies including writing IRB protocols executing study procedures managing data quality and contributing to publication efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in nursing or a health-related research area (e.g. public health psychology aging health communication) from an accredited university.
  • Experienced in statistical packages (e.g. R SAS SPSS Stata).
  • Eligibility for RN licensure in the state of Arizona (for nurse applicants).
  • Postdoctoral scholar is within five years from receipt of the doctoral degree and have received their doctoral degree by time of appointment

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to working with older adults living with cognitive impairment.
  • Evidence of strong communication skills such as through teaching experience professional presentations and/or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary or team-based research environments.
  • Familiarity with the IRB process and application informed consent processes and participant interaction in clinical or behavioral research settings.
  • Proficiency in software relevant to research activities (e.g. Microsoft Office REDCap or statistical packages).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities.
