Job Summary

Location: Student & Community Services Teacher Administrative Center 3215 Cuming St. Omaha NE 68131

Reports To: Student Placement Supervisor

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12 month/Non-Exempt hourly

Salary Schedule: Starts at $22.46/hr. Wages are administeredconsistent with the Office Personnel negotiated agreement. Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.

Position Purpose: The primary role of a Placement Secretary is to assist families with school enrollments school transfer requests and transportation questions. This position requires good communication skills as you interact with the public both in-person and on the phone throughout the day. Secondary responsibilities include filing and documentation work within Infinite Campus.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone calls in a professional manner with tact and courtesy
  • Ability to remain calm in periods of high volume with clients
  • Work professionally with others in the office setting
  • Willing to be flexible regarding the work schedule
  • Support the department personnel when the need arises
  • Type correspondence and report with accuracy
  • Sort and distribute department mail
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and data
  • Maintain positive working relationship with fellow staff members

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma and/or equivalency is required
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish and English) preferred
  • Computer skills that include the use of MS Word Excel Access DOSO Infinite Campus School Capping Report and willing to develop skills as new technology is implemented in the department
  • Basic understanding of the Student Assignment Plan
  • Experienced with data input
  • Computer understanding in both operations and set-up
  • Willing to work in a highly stressful office situation
  • Able to copy FAX and file
  • Ability to take direction and implement without specific instruction
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Capable of being able to handle multi-task duties on a continual basis
  • Experience with problem solving
  • Above average attendance and prior work record

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers copiers scanners and fax machine. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel may be required.

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • In order for schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
  • Regular attendance is important.

Terms of Employment

This position is treated as a full-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time and the Teacher Contract. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

Terms of employment are contingent upon:

  • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.
  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
