Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the practice of professional nursing which includes assessment planning intervention and evaluation of pediatric through geriatric patients. All Registered Nurses are expected to function independently in the Special Care Unit within a reasonable time frame not to exceed 18 months. An Associate s Degree in Nursing BSN preferred licensed in the State of Montana. Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification required. ACLS and NRP certifications will be required within a reasonable time frame not to exceed 12 months. PALS preferred. Job Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Assesses and documents the physical condition of the patient each shift and monitors for changes. Notifies the physician and House Supervisor of significant findings. Performs initial interview of patients and creates individualized care plan. Maintains safe environment for patients and staff; responds appropriately. Initiates and documents patient education plan teaching interventions and patient understanding of concepts taught. Initiates discharge planning for patients and family. Leads the interdisciplinary team and participates in utilization review. Performs treatments nursing interventions and administers medications per standards of care and hospital policy and procedure. Documents all interventions and patient condition post intervention. Evaluates the progress of the patient related to the plan of care and the treatments the physician has ordered. Ensures patient is safe for discharge and has post-services in place. Attends and participates in 90% Acute Care Nursing Staff meetings. If House Supervisor attends 3 out of 4 Quarterly Multi-Disciplinary Trauma meetings. Participates in performance improvement activities competency validation and continuing education Participates in Bedside Report and when appropriate keeps Med/Surg whiteboard updated. Collaborates with the medical staff to facilitate progress toward each patient s goals. Maintains greater than or equal to 95% on medication barcode scanning monthly.
