We are seeking an experienced House Manager for a private shooting estate in near Durham. The residence is in use primarily from August through October with occasional weekends in November and December. From January to July the House Managers focus shifts to caretaking overseeing essential maintenance managing projects and ensuring artwork and valuables are secure with full preparations beginning each August for the busy season ahead.
During the season the House Manager will manage a rotating team of chefs front-of-house housekeeping and other staff ensuring they are scheduled and prepared to maintain the estates 5-star standards. They typically host 2-3 shoot parties per week from August to October requiring top-tier hospitality and flawless service. The role includes recruiting training and overseeing staff managing service for meals and events coordinating schedules and handling all arrival and departure logistics for guests.
Core Responsibilities:
Manage front-of-house catering and housekeeping staff to deliver exceptional service throughout guests stays
Oversee formal dining and drink service care of the wine cellar and maintenance of silver antiques and artwork
Coordinate schedules rotas and security for the residence and grounds
Manage seasonal maintenance projects contractors and ensure compliance with health and safety standards
Maintain positive relations with the wider estate team
This role would suit individuals with the following experience:
Proven experience managing a large active country house with high standards
Strong communication skills initiative and discretion in managing staff and guest needs
Highly organised and adaptable with a passion for excellence
Knowledgeable in fine wine service and care of valuable antiques and furnishings
House manager salary is negotiable around 55k gpa based on experience.
Separate live-in accommodation is provided with utilities included (Partners pets and dependents are welcome).
This is a unique full-time live-in role managing a distinguished estate in the scenic North of England.
