Job Purpose
To perform hands-on maintenance repair and troubleshooting of all mechanical utility systems with a primary focus on pumps motors piping valves and mechanical seals ensuring the continuous flow of water and other essential fluids throughout the facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Pump and Motor Maintenance: Conduct routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) overhaul alignment and repair of various types of pumps (e.g. centrifugal submersible booster circulation) and their associated electric motors.
- Piping and Plumbing Repair: Troubleshoot and fix leaks in water sewage and fire-fighting piping systems. Repair and replace mechanical components such as valves gaskets pipe sections and mechanical seals.
- Mechanical Systems Support: Assist the Mechanical Engineer in the maintenance and repair of other mechanical equipment including water heaters cooling tower components pressure regulators and domestic water systems.
- Welding and Fabrication: Perform basic welding and pipe fitting tasks necessary for system repairs and modifications.
- Vibration and Alignment: Use specialized tools to perform vibration analysis and laser alignment on rotating equipment to ensure smooth operation and prevent premature wear.
- Safety and Documentation: Adhere strictly to LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures and other safety protocols when working on mechanical systems. Accurately document all work orders maintenance logs and inventory parts used.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Technical diploma or vocational certificate in Mechanical Technology Millwright Pipe Fitting or a related trade.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a Mechanical Technician focusing heavily on the maintenance and repair of industrial or commercial pumping systems and fluid transfer networks.
- Skills:
- Expertise in pump disassembly inspection reassembly and troubleshooting for common faults (e.g. cavitation vibration seal failure).
- Proficiency in mechanical measuring tools precision alignment techniques and rigging/lifting procedures.
- Strong knowledge of piping materials joining methods and valve operation (e.g. gate globe check valves).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
