About Organization

The Cloud Platform Departments mission is to provision Rakuten Mobiles virtualized Cloud infrastructure. Specifically the Cloud Infrastructure Section is responsible for designing developing deploying and supporting the operation of the hardware platform for the core datacenter of Rakuten Mobiles virtual network in collaboration with vendors. This team handles hardware engineering design deployment and maintenance comprehensively within the worlds first large-scale production virtualized mobile network architecture. The position offers significant opportunities to engage with advanced general-purpose server hardware technologies making it a highly attractive role.

The Cloud Hardware Engineering Group is dedicated to performing the design development deployment and operational support of the core datacenters hardware platform broadly flexibly and efficiently. The department aims to enhance its design and development capabilities by hiring engineers with specialized knowledge and skills particularly to keep pace with next-generation technologies. By recruiting exceptional engineers the organization seeks to improve team capabilities and productivity promote efficient project execution and contribute to overall organizational goals aligned with the teams vision and objectives.

Job Duties

This position is responsible for the following:

1. Define server hardware specifications and research new technologies.
2. Perform server hardware and component evaluation (BMC network storage and CPU).
3. Support production server hardware deployment.
4. Support production server hardware handover to the operations team.
5. Support production server hardware operation.
6. Handle server hardware-related issue investigation identify root causes apply preventive actions and support replacement and repair if individual failures occur.
7. Communicate with vendors in the areas mentioned above.

Work Environment

The team is responsible for the design construction and operation of server hardware that constitutes the cloud infrastructure. As part of a 100-person organization within the division the individual will work alongside other departments such as virtualization infrastructure networking field engineering data center operations management and project management. The work involves HW PCB Design & Engineering Data Center Engineering and testing servers in a lab environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge in server and component design and 5 years of experience in that area.
Additionally at least one of the following experiences or skills:
Knowledge in Linux OS and device drivers.
Experience in developing tools using shell scripts or Python.
Project experience in a multi-national environment using English and Japanese.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in log analysis and troubleshooting.
Programming in C language.
Knowledge in low-power design (e.g. BIOS configuration).
Experience in server benchmarking.
Knowledge in cloud platforms such as OpenStack Docker and Kubernetes.
