Cross Appointed Technician

Technical support and service

• Assist in preparing and maintaining studio spaces for classes critiques workshops and open access.
• Support circulation basic maintenance and organization of tools equipment and materials.
• Provide introductory guidance to students faculty and staff in the safe use of equipment and facilities.
• Participate in area upkeep including cleaning organizing and re-stocking supplies.

Materials and course support

• Assemble and distribute course kits and other instructional materials as directed.
• Track and report inventory levels to senior technicians.
• Receive unpack and organize deliveries and equipment.
• Prepare studios and equipment for demonstrations events and teaching activities.

Health and Safety

• Promote safe work habits and ensure compliance with established health and safety policies.
• Assist in maintaining safety signage and documentation under direction from senior technicians.
• Monitor studios for basic hazards and report concerns promptly.

Coverage and cross-departmental support

• Provide coverage and basic operational continuity in assigned studios during planned or unplanned absences of senior technicians.
• Adapt work priorities according to studio schedules operational needs and project timelines.
• Assist in supporting fashion where applicable in coordination with senior staff.

An BFA in Fine Arts with a concentration in Textiles and Painting Product Design Interdisciplinary Studies or equivalent and at least two (2) years related experience and relevant computer equipment and software (or the equivalent combination of education and experience) may be considered.

The incumbent must have a strong foundational knowledge in Textiles. Experience working in a post-secondary educational environment is an asset.

Excellent interpersonal skills service orientation and an ability to communicate effectively are essential. Well- developed organizational and time management skills are required.

The incumbent must be able to work in a busy environment in which frequent interruptions are prevalent. Due to the nature of the equipment and/or materials used the incumbent must be attentive and responsive to potential safety hazards and take appropriate precautionary measures as required.
