Job Summary:
The Cardiac Sonographer performs comprehensive cardiac ultrasound examinations on adult patients to help diagnose and evaluate cardiac conditions. This role involves operating ultrasound equipment preparing patients conducting various cardiac imaging procedures and collaborating with physicians to ensure accurate diagnostic results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform transthoracic transesophageal and stress echocardiograms according to established protocols.
- Prepare and maintain ultrasound equipment and ensure proper functioning before procedures.
- Prepare and position patients for cardiac ultrasound exams; explain procedures and answer patient questions.
- Acquire high-quality diagnostic images of the heart for physician interpretation.
- Review images for quality and completeness and report preliminary findings when required.
- Evaluate patient history and clinical information to guide the exam and frame the clinical question.
- Document procedures accurately and maintain patient records.
- Collaborate with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and assist in diagnosis.
- Maintain compliance with safety protocols and infection control standards.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain required certifications.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited cardiac sonography program or
- Equivalent work experience (minimum 2 years beyond entry-level qualifications).
Experience:
- Less than 1 year of experience.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Required certification at time of hire (one of the following):
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardio Credentialing International (CCI) or
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
