JOB TITLE: Nurse Assistant (Floater) WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide district wide assistance to the school nurses as needed in order to facilitate student access to needed health services. Establish familiarity with all elementary campus clinics procedures and students in anticipation of the need to provide coverage for absent staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant MA) certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Emergency response certification;
Vision and hearing screening certification;
Texas Education Agency paraprofessional certification preferred
Experience:
One-year experience working with children
One-year clerical experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illness according to a detailed protocol established by the school nurse.
- Assist in care of ill students including taking temperatures.
- Administer glucose-monitoring tests for diabetic students.
- Assist with screening activities including measuring height and weight testing vision and hearing and examining hair and scalp.
- Assists students with personal hygiene including changing diapers or soiled clothing as needed.
- Administer medications after being instructed by the school nurse about dosage side effects etc.
- Secure transportation for students who are ill and make home visits as needed.
- Assist with communicable disease control.
- Assist with health teaching.
- Assist in maintaining a daily log of health office activities including reporting accidents communicable disease data and referrals to school nurse.
- Perform routine record-keeping activities including reports and records required by the school health program.
- Review student health records for immunization compliance and send referral notes home with students.
- Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at multiple sites on a regular daily basis according to staffing needs as directed by the district lead nurse.
- Keep work area clean and sanitary using Universal Precautions Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care.
- 15 Assist in maintaining supply inventory and request supplies as needed.
- Assist with conferences with teachers.
- Assist with conferences with students and parents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws board policy district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by principal or designee.
