The Position

Primary Purpose of Job (Job Summary)
Conduct preformulation and formulation research to support the technical development of small molecule assets within Roche China (CICoR)s portfolio.

Principle Roles & Responsibilities / Accountabilities (Major functions of the position)
In this role you will serve as a functional expert for CICoRs small molecules NCE projects create innovative and efficient solutions to specific problems utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and in-depth scientific knowledge and experience. You will be responsible for
Preformulation research including compound pharmaceutical profiling physicochemical property characterization solid-state characterization and polymorph/salt/co-crystal screening for phase-appropriate solid form selection;
Preclinical formulation development and supply including support for efficacy DMPK and toxicology studies;
Development of formulations and manufacturing processes for clinical studies; planning coordination and supervision of cGMP production of clinical trial materials at CDMO.

You will represent the formulation function on cross-functional project teams and technical development teams. You will be responsible for:
Participation in discussion of and advising the project teams on topics pertaining to formulation including the assessment of NCE developability from a preformulation and formulation perspective

Devising and executing plans for formulation functional research activities according to project needs
Providing regular updates on formulation functional research activities at the project team TDT site or cross-site governance level

Education/Qualifications
Advanced degree in a scientific or relevant discipline (Ph.D. or equivalent) with at least 2 years or MS with at least 10 years of working experience in formulation chemical engineering or related areas.

Job Required Competencies
The ideal candidate should be proactive and self-motivated; a strong problem solver; and a good team player with good communication skills. The candidate should have:

Sound knowledge in formulation theories and state-of-the-art technologies; demonstrated capability of conducting independent research; hands-on experience in operating calibrating maintaining and troubleshooting a wide range of instruments (sieving blending milling dry granulation wet granulations tablet press capsule filling coating packaging etc.) that are used in formulation development.

Sound knowledge in the theories and technologies in preformulation and solid state science; demonstrated capability of conducting independent research; hands-on experience in operating calibrating maintaining and trouble-shooting a wide range of instruments (XRPD DSC TGA PLM DVS IR PSD HPLC etc.) that are used in preformulation and solid state science
Working knowledge in SHE and cGMP
Project management experience a plus; CRO CDMO management experience a plus
Fluency in both written and spoken English
