THIS PART-TIME ROLE WITH SENIOR AND SOCIAL SERVICES AT THE RIVERFRONT COMMUNITY CENTER IS 19.5 HOURS PER WEEK (MONDAY - THURSDAY 9:30 A.M. TO 1:30 P.M. AND FRIDAY 10 A.M. TO 1:30 P.M.).
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision of the Senior Center Supervisor incumbent supports the daily operation of the Senior Center meal program by assisting in the preparation serving and clean-up of nutritious lunches for program participants and Riverfront Community Center Café patrons.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assists in the preparation and portioning of meals according to daily menus and nutritional guidelines. Follows all food handling and safety regulations including temperature control and sanitation standards.
- Sets up dining and serving areas including utensils beverages and condiments. Serves meals to program participants in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Takes/prepares food orders and accepts payment from Riverfront Community Center Café patrons as assigned.
- Maintains cleanliness of kitchen dining room and storage areas by cleaning and sanitizing equipment dishes and workstations. Clears and cleans dining room tables and organizes storage areas.
- Assists in receiving and storing food deliveries; rotates stock to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
- Assists in maintaining accurate meal count and inventory records.
- Purchases supplies and ingredients for recipes as necessary.
- Performs the Cooks duties in his/her absence.
- Contributes to a respectful and safe work environment by fostering a culture of positive communication and ethical behavior with an emphasis on providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Assists with generating menu ideas.
- Performs other duties as required.

- Observes state traffic laws
- Represents the Town in a professional and courteous manner at all times

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:
- Ability to
- follow verbal and written instructions
- manage time effectively prioritizing tasks to ensure timely meal preparation
- work as a part of a small team in a fast-paced kitchen and dining setting
- Perform basic math skills to prepare recipes and execute sales/purchase transactions
- Knowledge of
- safe food handling practices and food preparation
- basic food preparation methods including but not limited to cooking and baking
- Skilled in
- the safe and efficient use of commercial kitchen tools including but not limited to peelers knives and measuring utensils; and equipment such as mixers blenders stoves and ovens
- providing customer service
- interpersonal communication especially with older adults
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to
- push/pull/lift objects of up to 40 pounds stand for prolonged periods of time and walk short distances
- perform manipulative skills such as operating hand tools and kitchen equipment and supplies
- see objects closely as in reading a recipe; hear normal sounds with background noise; distinguish voice patterns and communicate with speech as in using a telephone
- concentrate on minimal details with ongoing interruptions; remember multiple tasks/assignments over short periods; understand and relate to specific ideas generally several at a time.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Age 18
- High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years experience in commercial food preparation; relevant experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of high school education
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:
- Connecticut Health Department Food Protection Manager Certification within 90 days of hire
- Drivers License
