This position provides financial support to the department such as providing expert accounting assistance regarding fiscal processes policies and procedures for department managers and staff.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

The offices are centrally located in beautiful downtown Juneau close to shopping dining hiking trails and the waterfront. We are currently located in the Court Plaza Building where you will have large windows with views of Mount Juneau or water views of the Channel.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

  • Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual obligations and costs methods.
  • Financial Systems: Knowledge of the standards architecture and specifications of automated financial systems including source documents system flows system interfaces and related internal controls.

Essential skills of the successful candidate include communication collaboration and the ability to facilitate and ensure proactive on-going training and development for the Fiscal and Revenue staff as well as departmental administrative and management staff.

Competency Description

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting budgeting or financial management.

Competencies means a combination of interrelated knowledge skills abilities and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

Typically gained by means the prevalent usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

Training and education in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom on-line self-study and on-the-job) from accredited and unaccredited sources and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

Professional experience means work that is creative analytical evaluative and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the professions principles concepts theories and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to ones own judgment.

Progressively responsible means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity difficulty or level of responsibility.

Other Information:

Some positions may require a bachelors degree in accounting finance or related field and /or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). The requirement will be noted in the recruitment posting.

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS:The State of Alaska (SOA) uses four levels of proficiency to measure and describe an applicants level of competence in applying certain behaviors knowledge skills and abilities to accomplish a specific task. The proficiency levels are Mastery Fluency Literacy and Discovery. You will need to rate your proficiency for each competency listed in the supplemental questions.
