About the role
To carry out complex and detailed assessments of vulnerable adults in care homes hospitals and other settings under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 to determine whether they are being deprived of their liberty and if so whether this in their best interests.

To work with the Lead Practitioner Mental Capacity Act /DOLS to ensure the efficient operational management of the MCA/ DOLS service and the delivery of high quality responsive and safe best interest assessments. The Best Interest Assessor will be accountable to Supervisory Body.

To provide a high standard of work to adults and/or carers and to work collaboratively with colleagues in Communities Adults and Health in the context of the Councils duties and powers under the Care Act 2014 in accordance with Barnet policies and procedures guidelines and the Code of Practice for social care workers.

To safeguard adults and carers at risk of harm and promote Making Safeguarding Personal principles and their wellbeing.



About you
  • The post holder will be a highly competent specialist practitioner with a social work or Occupational Therapy qualification CQSW Dip SW They will have at least two years post qualification experience.
  • The post holder will have completed DOLS Best Interests Assessor training approved by the Secretary of State and if this training was completed more than 12 months ago will have completed further training relevant to their role as a best interest assessor within the last 12 months
  • This post requires registration with Social Work England or HCPC. This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service.
  • A clear understanding of the range of relevant social care legislation and policies relating to adult user groups.
