Job Description
The Vice President of External Communications & Outreach position is responsible for working with the CMCO to oversee and manage external communications media relations sponsorship strategies and corporate events on behalf of BJC Health System and the regions it serves.
Essential accountabilities
- Manage individual(s) including but not limited to: onboarding and hiring training workload management & performance evaluations conducting professional development plans as needed. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership. Innovative in recruiting and retaining and supporting the professional development of team members.
- Lead the development implementation and ongoing oversight of strategic external messaging and all elements of media relations management including media relations strategy on local regional and national level executive and physician leadership media training and interview prep as well as building and strengthening relationships with local and national addition responsible for developing and managing external crisis communications strategy and response including taking lead on crafting external messaging and talking points.
- Develop and implement external communications and sponsorship strategies for the Enterprise and its Regions that align with and support Enterprise and Region strategic goals.
- Collaborate closely with MarCom colleagues and BJC partners to ensue crisis communications efforts are strategic well-aligned and minimize Enterprise risk.
- Lead the development implementation and ongoing oversight of Enterprise-wide and Region-specific Sponsorships and Events including management of all sports and community partnerships and HSO events and Foundation events as appropriate and key leadership and strategic internal/partner events.
- Exhibit thought leadership in areas of expertise that reflect enhancements to existing solutions. Partner with the various teams across the organization (HR Talent IT Finance Legal Operations etc) to support business applications by advising best practices recommending process improvements and implementing system enhancements that advance the goals of the business.
- Oversee the establishment of processes documentation and standards for development of external communications and execution of strategic sponsorships and events.
- Stay current with MarCom technology industry trends and lead the adoption of strategic technologies that impact areas of expertise across MarCom business and IT stakeholders. Find opportunities to enhance the workforce experience and optimize the businesses ability to improve people processes and make more informed communications and sponsorship decisions through technology-enabled solutions and access to data analytics.
- Conduct disciplined planning and execution on all areas of responsibility; allocate resources toward optimum efficiency and effectiveness while balancing innovative approaches to identify resolve and manage issues with uncompromising quality integrity standards and results.
- Develop self and others while creating an environment where people and the department are highly engaged and accomplish their best results via development communications rewards and recognition. Act with integrity and in an ethical manner. Demonstrate accountability responsibility and build mutual trust.
- Demonstrate an agility to cope effectively and lead large scale change and transformation in a dynamic and fast paced environment. Navigates efficiently in complex environments and relationships to achieve optimal results.
Position requirements
The External Communications & Outreach Vice President will possess the following combination of skills and experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience including at least 5 years of leadership experience to include supervisory experience and a track record of success in significant roles of progressive responsibility.
- Bachelors degree in related field.
- Comfortable working in a complex matrix organization.
- Strong sense of mission and an active engaged leadership style.
- Operationally savvy with a problem-solving mindset high EQ and a high focus on metrics.
- Clearly knowledgeable in their field of expertise yet able to demonstrate humility and exceptional skills in developing and forging successful working relationships with executive leadership physicians and other key functional stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to partner with executive and system leadership in strategic and tactical planning and implementation.
- Technically savvy with strong quantitative/analytical acumen.
- Highly successful in driving change within an organization.
- Excellent interpersonal problem solving analytic and oral and written communication particular the ability to foster teamwork and coordination of care among diverse stakeholders is essential.
- Adaptable and flexible style of collaborating up and down and across.
- Proven ability to develop excellent relationships quickly gain credibility influence and partner with their team business leaders and the clinical community.
