Position Summary:

The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for the Raddock Family Eminent Scholar Chair for Holocaust Studies. The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters will soon break ground on its new center for Jewish studies the Kurt & Marilyn Wallach Holocaust and Jewish Studies Building.

The position is a full-time benefits-eligible academic-year (9-month) appointment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an international reputation in the field of Holocaust Studies with a record of distinguished scholarship teaching excellence and public engagement. We welcome candidates whose work engages Holocaust history literature testimony memory ethics education trauma genocide studies visual culture digital humanities or any interdisciplinary approach that expands and deepens the understanding of the Holocaust and its legacies.

Jewish Studies at FAU is an interdisciplinary program with a BA and a Minor in Jewish Studies as well as a minor and a certificate in Holocaust Studies. It is the home to the future Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Building for Holocaust and Jewish Studies which includes classroom and office space a Holocaust Museum and a gallery space slated to open in Fall 2026. The new building will also house the Program in Peace Justice and Human Rights and the Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Family Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education (CHHRE).

Summary of Responsibilities

- Maintain an active program of internationally recognized research and publication in Holocaust Studies or related fields.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Holocaust Studies Jewish Studies and related interdisciplinary areas.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students fostering intellectual engagement and academic excellence.
- Provide leadership for and collaborate closely with the Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education and the Jewish Studies Program to promote scholarship public education and community outreach.
- Seek and manage external funding to support research symposia and educational initiatives.
- Participate actively in service to the university the profession and the broader community.

Minimum Qualifications:

- A Ph.D. in Holocaust Studies Jewish Studies Religious Studies History Literature Philosophy or a closely related field.
- A record of excellence in scholarship including a substantial publication record in leading presses or journals.
- Evidence of effective teaching and mentorship at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Demonstrated experience with public and scholarly engagement including lectures symposia and partnerships with museums archives or educational organizations.
- Proven record of service and leadership in advancing Holocaust Studies or related areas.
- Superior communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage diverse academic and public audiences.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience directing academic programs or centers related to Jewish or Holocaust Studies.
- Success in obtaining external funding for research or programming.
- Experience engaging with K12 or community education initiatives related to Holocaust remembrance and human rights.
- Evidence of interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship that bridges humanities history and social sciences.
