Summary
Under limited supervision the Rental Technician is responsible for performing rental check-ins and check-outs assisting customers organizing equipment and maintaining a clean and safe yard. This position emphasizes customer service and operational efficiency with repair and maintenance tasks as a secondary priority.
Essential Functions
- Perform timely rental check-ins and check-outs of company-owned rental equipment ensuring a smooth customer experience.
- Assist customers with loading and unloading equipment and provide necessary instructions regarding operation and attachments.
- Conduct visual and mechanical functionality checks on all rental equipment to ensure readiness and safety for the customer.
- Maintain exceptional organization within the rental equipment yard ensuring that equipment is properly stored and each piece has a current check-out record.
- Exercise great attention to detail ensuring the accuracy of all paperwork related to rental transactions which is critical to the success of the role.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the rental yard and equipment including steam cleaning machinery as needed.
- Ensure all equipment and attachments are clearly marked with company ID numbers and CMI decals.
- Red tag equipment needing repairs and coordinate with rental coordinators on scheduling these repairs.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as adding oil and airing tires when necessary.
- Assist in minor repairs (flat tires blown hoses) as required prioritizing safety and operational efficiency.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Entry-level to four years of related experience and/or training in equipment repair and maintenance preferred.
- Must have a valid Class C drivers license and a clean DMV report.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand walk use hands and fingers to handle objects and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently climb or balance talk or hear and occasionally sit stoop kneel crouch or crawl.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Frequently works outdoors in various weather conditions and may occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.
- Occasionally works in high precarious places.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
