In Roches Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED) we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the worlds toughest unmet healthcare needs. This position is within the Ophthalmology team part of the Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) organization. As part of our development we are looking for a senior leader with deep expertise in choroid biology and human retinal diseases to boost our ongoing research and development. Located in Basel this group focuses on the discovery of therapeutic approaches for eye diseases such as both wet and dry forms of age related macular degeneration along with its subindications

The opportunity:


Your main responsibilities are the following:

  • Acting as an AMD area expert to set strategy and prioritize projects focused on retinochoroidal disorders inflammation fenestration of the choriocapillaris and pericyte stability

  • Co-management of a postdoctoral fellow

  • Working in collaboration with the IHB PDMA and local institutions to generate characterize and mine targets from advanced microtissues.

  • Communicate scientific progress through internal meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

You like thinking outside the box and work with passion. You bring new ideas and also previous knowledge of inflammation in ophthalmology.


Who you are

  • You hold at least a PhD (MD PhD is preferred) and have worked in vision research capacity for ten years or more at least at the level of an academic Associate Professor. Equivalent industry experience ten years or more in target discovery and development will also be considered.

  • Deep knowledge of human AMD and understanding of the murine models available.

  • Ability to plan and manage programs run by a postdoc and associates

  • You are well organized and committed to formal record keeping a team player and you foster a collaborative spirit with other scientists and colleagues. You can adapt to a fast-paced changing environment are fluent in English and have good presentation and communication skills.

  • A strong publication record is expected

  • A professional network and contacts in the field
