Distributed Systems Engineer

San Francisco CA. On site. Full time.

Advantra is partnering with an early stage cloud infrastructure startup in San Francisco to hire a Distributed Systems Engineer to build and scale a new high-performance cloud storage platform for modern data workloads.

You will design build and operate distributed systems that power a next-generation cloud storage platform. The work includes building reliable scalable infrastructure that runs across multiple clouds maintaining production uptime and improving system performance and throughput. You will handle real production incidents deploy infrastructure and design systems for atomicity and idempotency. As an early team member you will influence both the technical roadmap and the product direction.

1. Build distributed storage systems that support large-scale workloads.
   

2. Design APIs and data flows that ensure atomic and idempotent operations.
   

3. Deploy and manage infrastructure across multiple cloud providers.
   

4. Maintain uptime through participation in oncall rotations.
   

5. Debug complex production issues using metrics logs and tracing tools.
   

6. Optimize system performance throughput and latency.
   

7. Automate infrastructure setup and generalize deployment processes.
   

8. Collaborate with engineering leadership to shape product direction.
   

9. Adapt to evolving requirements in a fast-changing environment.
   

1. 3 years of experience building and operating distributed systems.
   

2. Experience supporting production systems and responding to incidents.
   

3. Knowledge of distributed consensus algorithms and scaling techniques.
   

4. Strong understanding of system performance and latency optimization.
   

5. Familiarity with deploying systems across at least one major cloud platform.
   

6. Experience debugging distributed failures using metrics and logs.
   

7. Proficiency in designing reliable APIs and service boundaries.
   

8. Understanding of infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform or Kubernetes.
   

9. Ability to work through ambiguity and shifting customer needs.
   

10. Strong computer systems fundamentals from hardware to networking.
    

1. Experience with distributed file systems or storage infrastructure.
   

2. Prior experience at an early stage startup.
   

3. Familiarity with Raft Paxos or similar consensus systems.
   

4. Exposure to cloud observability stacks such as Prometheus or Grafana.
   

5. Contributions to open source infrastructure or storage projects.
