We are currently looking for an Aboriginal Health Worker to join our Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team in Wellington. The Aboriginal Health Worker will provide an integrated service to indigenous children and families at risk; provide case management and intervention education and community awareness with the purpose of building resilience around social and financial disadvantage.

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

Sound understanding of the principles of case management

Knowledge of the health and social milestones in child development

Ability to assess the vulnerabilities of children and families

Proven ability to work collaboratively with other services to meet the needs of vulnerable children and families

Understanding of services in the community and the referral pathways for clients to access services

Under the instruction and guidance of the Team Leader engage in parenting education both individual and group in order to improve outcomes for children and families

Under the instruction and guidance of the Team Leader engage in community events to raise the profile of the program and create child friendly communities

Identify barriers to good parenting and family relationships and engage with services where appropriate to assist in breaking down the barriers

Assist children and families in the transition through the various child care and education streams

Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact on Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities

Essential Criteria:

Aboriginality.

Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care

Demonstrated experience in providing health services to Aboriginal people in the community and/or primary health care nursing.

Proven ability to work well within a service team.

Demonstrated experience of working independently and/or showing initiative in relation to patient care.

Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact on Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities.

Understanding and knowledge of specialist medical allied health and support services locally.

A Current National Police Check.

A Current Working With Childrens Check NSW.

Current Drivers License that allows you to drive in Australia.

COVID-19 Vaccination and Booster information (or evidence of a valid medical exemption).

Immunisation records.
