Summary of the Position
To use leadership supervisory and administrative skills to promote the attainment of the districts mission as defined in the Strategic Plan and the Annual Goals. The Assistant Superintendent is a key member of the district leadership team providing leadership and strategic direction for school improvement initiatives and professional development of principals professional and paraprofessional staff. Acts as Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent.
Qualifications
- Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from Pennsylvania Department of Education.
- Masters Degree in educational leadership. Terminal degree preferred.
- Extensive experience in school leadership and application of best practices in school operations and management professional development program evaluation and educational technology.
- Extensive Curriculum & Instruction Supervisory experience (Certificate Preferred) with sophisticated knowledge of effective practices in instruction and assessment and at least three years experience as a building principal and five years experience as a classroom teacher.
- A demonstrated record of success in leading strategic educational initiatives that result in measurable improved student achievement.
- Knowledge of Special Education laws and regulations. Required Clearances.
- Knowledge of working in a small community public education system with an excellent reputation of quality academics arts and athletics.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize appropriately.
- Ability to contribute to a positive culture at building and district level.
- Experience leading professional learning opportunities for staff.
- Experience in leading change in a positive collaborative manner.
- Experience managing federal/state program grants and budgets as well as district program budgets.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leadership and Administration
- Supervises the effective and efficient implementation of the educational and instructional programs in compliance with local state and federal regulations and the provisions of the districts policies and collective bargaining agreements
- Collaborates with the Superintendent to implement his/her plan to achieve the vision mission and strategic plan goals of the district
- Promotes internal and external understanding and support ofthe Lewisburg Area School District
- Attends meetings and serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of School Directors
- Serves as Title IX and Compliance Officer for the district
- Serves as liaison to the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit and other agencies to ensure compliance with all laws regulations and policies relating to the instructional program and keeps abreast of developments and innovations in the education field through knowledge of current literature and participation in professional conferences and workshops
- Serves as District Federal Programs Coordinator - Coordinates project proposals applications and grants for Federal and State programs in the district and oversees program audits including:
TitleI Remedial Reading/Math Title II Professional Development
Title III English as Second Language
Title IV Student Support and Academic Enrichment Ready to Learn Grant
PA Pre-K Counts School Safety Grants
Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth
- Completes all reports and surveys for the Federal Office of Civil Rights
- Seeks new or recurring grant opportunities for the district and submits applications upon consultation with the Superintendent
- Coordinates the Student Teaching Plans and coordinates student briefing and debriefing sessions for student teachers assigned to the district each semester
- Responsible for preparation maintenance and evaluation of all required records and reports delegated to the Assistant Superintendent
- Collaborates with the Superintendent and Administrative Team to complete the PA Department of Education Strategic Planning Process resulting in the Districts written plan
- Participates in District and/or building level administrative meetings to ensure more effective and efficient implementation of delegated duties and responsibilities
- Performs other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent
2. Curriculum Instruction and Assessment
- Directs and leads the implementation of curriculum and instructional practices in the district working with designated teacher leaders and administrators
- Assesses instructional effectiveness student engagement participation and performance
- Evaluates the instruction of non-tenured professional instructional staff for the purposes of overall program improvement conducting formal evaluations as well as frequent classroom walkthroughs/informal observations
- Responsible for the administration and oversight of the budget in the following areas:

- Directs and leads the study groups/task forces/committees in the development and revision of planned instruction educational programs and initiatives
- Ensures that the curriculum is aligned with PA Standards and state assessments including vertical and horizontal articulation within the district
- Works with principals in the analysis of student achievement results data and development of effective strategies to ameliorate deficiencies in student learning
- Develops proposes and implements in collaboration with the Superintendent experimental and pilot programs that will improve instruction
- Secures board approval of written planned instruction and the educational resources necessary to support the instruction
- Coordinates the selection and evaluation of instructional materials including textbooks educational software and equipment
3. Personnel
- Coordinates substitute orientation and training program
- Directs Pupil Personnel and Health Services in the District
- Serves as Human Resources Coordinator and directs the application process screening of candidates interview process and hiring of professional personnel coordinating with the Superintendent in the final selection of candidates to recommend to the school board for approval
- Evaluates staffing needs and keeps the Superintendent informed of potential needs
- Conducts Investigations regarding professional staff conduct as directed by the Superintendent
- Promotes effective communication and cooperation among administrators
4. Pupil Services
- Oversees the Counseling Services and English as a Second Language Program
- Manages parent and/or guardian concerns and conducts investigations in response to student parent/guardian concerns as necessary
- Participates in student expulsion hearings as necessary
- Assists in coordinating Home Schooling Homebound Education Virtual Learning and Alternative Education
5. Professional Development
- Coordinates District Professional Staff Induction Mentor Tenure and Supervision Plans
- Facilitates in-service training of teachers and administrators through conferences workshops group discussions committee studies and the use of consultants for the purpose of improving the Districts programs of instruction
- Recommends staff development needs through consultation with teacher leadership administrative team and the Superintendent
- Conducts formal and informal evaluations of professional staff providing individualized professional development recommendationsin collaboration with building administrators to ensure an effective staff of professionals are providing students with the highest levels of quality instruction
6. School Community Relations
- Represents the District at school and community events committees etc.
- Supervises the creation and dissemination of information regardingthe school district through reports including the staffing report and the district website
- Encourages and supports parent participation in the District through the development of participation opportunities for parents timely effective communication and by strengthening and supporting existing organizations such as PSA and booster organizations
- Develops and promotes positive relations between the District/Schools and the community
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time
- Must be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets office machinery etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery including copy machine etc.
- This position frequently communicates with students staff and community members regarding District operations and Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- Must be able to determine effectiveness of classroom instructional methods and to distinguish whether students are engaged etc.
- Must be maintain a current drivers license to meet position requirements for travel to various buildings within the district as well as other buildings in the community for various observations and meetings
- Must be able to move equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds to and from various locations in the school district
Auditory and Visual Requirements: Must be within normal range
Worksite Environment
Primarily indoors with occasional exposure to outdoor weather during the
workday and at athletic events.
