Job Description:

The Neurotechnology Laboratory of the Norman Fixel Institute of Neurological Diseases at the University of Florida led by Dr. Christopher Butson is seeking highly talented and self-motivated Postdoctoral Associate to participate in research projects focused on neuromodulation therapy for neurological and psychiatric conditions including Parkinsons disease epilepsy dystonia traumatic brain injury pain Tourettes syndrome and other disorders. The position starts immediately and is fully funded and supported in part by federal grants awarded to Dr Butson.

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of experts conducting translational research on several projects depending upon aptitude and training. The applicant will have the opportunity to develop their research publication and presentation skills under structured mentorship from established faculty investigators.

The work will focus primarily on developing novel therapies for patients with intractable neurological and psychiatric conditions using a combination of device development computational modeling and human studies. Depending on expertise and interest the successful candidate may work on one of multiple areas of focus that are available. The postdoctoral associate will be mentored and encouraged to seek extramural fellowships and develop their own project ideas in addition to working toward the labs research goals.

The newly created Norman Fixel Institute is part of a vibrant research community that includes biomedical engineers neurophysiologists neurologists neurosurgeons and neuroscientists. Dr Butsons lab has access to top-notch facilities close interaction with leaders in Neurology Neurosurgery and Radiology workshops and training programs for building grant-writing and interviewing skills and ample funding opportunities for postdocs and graduate students.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience level and consisted with NIH salary scale. This position will be initially awarded for one year and contingent upon strong performance and conduct can be renewed for another year. Position is dependent on available funding after the second year.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. degree in an appropriate area

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have a strong record of productivity from previous training
Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory
Expert knowledge in scientific computing including fluency in MATLAB and Python
Advanced skills with Linux and scripting
Experience with medical image (MRI DWI CT) processing using open-source programs such as Seg3d Slicer ANTS or similar
Experience DSI Studio MRTrix or similar
Experience with finite element modeling programs such as SCIRun COMSOL or similar
