Job Summary

Position Title: EC/ESLibrarian
Division:Early Childhood/Elementary School
Supervisor:Assistant Head of School Teaching & Learning
Position Summary:
The Early Childhood and Elementary School Librarian provides leadership and oversight of all aspects of the ES library collection budget physical & virtual spaces and program for early childhood and elementary school grades as well as promotes the effective use of educational technologies in alignment with the schools mission.
The EC/ES Librarian coordinates with the MS/HS Librarian to align a coherent whole-school library program. The EC/ES Librarian models the attributes of a future-ready educator and creates thriving physical and virtual environments that connect learners to construct knowledge collaborate and creatively solve problems. The librarian is an excellent communicator who instils enthusiasm in others by making them feel they are important members of a team.
The librarian fosters an environment of creativity innovation and openness to new ideas welcoming and encouraging input from others while anticipating future obstacles and continually retooling to meet challenges. The librarian is an integral part of the learning process as an instructional partner through collaboration with students teachers instructional supports team and school leaders.

Requirements:
Education
  • Masters Degree
  • Library certification
  • Advanced degree or specialization training that supports the teaching role preferred.
Experience
  • Three to five years school experience including teaching and or school library experience including collection development and teaching information media and technology literacies (trans literacy - research read write and interact across a range of platforms tools and media).
  • Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with American and other educational systems preferred.
  • Previous experience with development of digital collections appropriate for early childhood and elementary school aged children preferred.

    • Teacher As a teacher the school librarian empowers students and staff to become critical thinkers enthusiastic readers exceptional users of technologies skillful researchers and ethical users of information.
    • Program Administrator Works collaboratively with members of the learning community to define the policies of the EC/ES library program and to guide and direct all activities related to it.
Job Specific Expectations
  • Collaborate with students teachers instructional supports team and school leaders to design and implement inquiry-based units and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness.
  • Instruct students and staff in information media and technology literacy skills.
  • Evaluate and procure print and digital resources with a focus on digital resources.
  • Network with other libraries librarians and agencies to provide expanded access to programs and digital resources for students and teachers.
  • Prepare and manage a budget that supports the EC/ES library programs and supports the mission of the school.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate the EC/ES library programs.
  • Supervise and evaluate library support staff.
  • Organize the annual Battle of the Books activity.

  • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants/Support Staff in working with or monitoring children and managing clerical expectations and guidelines for these adults in the learning environment and help them understand their roles/responsibilities.
  • Undertake additional duties that may reasonably be assigned or requested by the Supervisor such as leading student trips serving as chaperon roles as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
