Position Summary

Under general direction The Sport Clubs Program Coordinator serves as an approving official and decision maker for the sport club compliance program and travel program in order to comply with CSU sport club guidelines and CSUS Risk Management requirements while mitigating risk and limiting liability.

The Sport Clubs Program Coordinator oversees compliance and approves all sport club travel for the program (100 trips per year) and provides program marketing website expansion social media communications team store and uniform development and multiple databases. The incumbent is responsible for developing resources and procedures to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency through the creation of web-based resources trainings and education. They manage the programs identity guide and University brand in order to comply with both University Marketing and Collegiate Licensing policies. The incumbent leads and manages the game day operations volunteer program (Sport Clubs Games Management Team) for sport club home competitions.

Student Organizations & Leadership (SO&L) advocates for students and contributes to learning development and retention by providing opportunities for involvement leadership and empowerment through a wide variety of organizations and programs. These experiences nurture campus pride and student success to advance an inclusive and equitable community. Student Organizations & Leadership is committed to encouraging and helping students become involved in campus life through a variety of leadership programs and more than 300 clubs and organizations. The incumbent is responsible for advising training and developing student leaders for 40 student clubs and organizations.

The Sacramento State Sport Club program consists of 18 (on average) highly competitive sport clubs that compete against other universities in leagues conferences and tournaments at the local regional and national level. The program also includes 10 recreation clubs which are developed organized and led by students with guidance and direction from Sport Club professional staff club coaches and instructors.

FLSA:Exempt (not eligible for overtime compensation)

Anticipated Hiring Range:Anticipated hiring rate is at the minimum of the CSU Classification Salary Range:$5540 per month

Knowledge and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.

Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex studentrelated matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations analyze and define the problem draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

Experience:

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.

A masters degree in Counseling Clinical Psychology Social Work or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Experience

  1. Higher education student services experience related to the assigned program area (e.g. advising admissions residential life student programming or development)

Knowledge Skills Abilities

  1. Ability to independently prioritize plan and organize work in a fast-paced environment.
  2. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide direct programs and/or services to a diverse student population
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment
  4. Ability to compile prepare write and review reports
  5. Proficiency using standard office software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
  6. Familiarity working with school-based record/data systems/software (example: PeopleSoft)
  7. Ability to understand interpret and apply moderately complex rules regulations and procedures
  8. Experience working with students from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds including underserved students.
  9. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty students staff and members of the community.

PreferredQualifications

  1. Masters degree in Educational Leadership College Student Personnel Educational Counseling or related field.
  2. Experience advising student-led clubs and organizations in a college environment.
  3. Experience working for a sport club or similar program post undergraduate graduation.
  4. Experience facilitating leadership programs and/or training in a college environment.
  5. Experience supervising college students.
  6. Experience working with CampusGroups Do Sports Easy and Common Management System.
