Position Summary

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will serve as the senior clinical leader of GSSHealth responsible for guiding clinical quality research oversight and sustainability initiatives that interface with healthcare delivery. The CMO will ensure that GSSHealth programs maintain the highest standards of clinical excellence ethical integrity and global health relevance particularly in low-resource environments.

This is a part-time leadership role ideal for an experienced global health physician with a track record in clinical program management applied research and interdisciplinary sustainability work.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Program Oversight

• Provide strategic and technical leadership for all GSSHealth clinical programs.
• Ensure adherence to evidence-based standards regulatory compliance and ethical research practices
• Support the development of clinical protocols training materials and quality improvement frameworks.
• Mentor and support field-based clinicians and partners to strengthen local capacity.

2. Sustainability and Alternative Energy Initiatives

• Lead GSSHealth sustainability programs with a focus on integrating renewable energy solutions (e.g. solar battery storage) into healthcare delivery.
• Collaborate with engineers and sustainability specialists to design implement and evaluate energy access programs that enhance clinical outcomes.
• Represent GSSHealth in cross-sectoral partnerships at the intersection of health energy and climate resilience.

3. Research and Innovation

• Provide clinical oversight and input on the GSSHealth research portfolio including seroprevalence studies diagnostic innovation and medical device development.
• Ensure scientific rigor ethical review compliance and translation of research findings into policy and practice.
• Contribute to scientific publications grant applications and dissemination of research outcomes.

4. Strategic Leadership and Representation

• Serve as a member of the GSSHealth leadership team contributing to organizational strategy partnerships and advocacy.
• Represent GSSHealth in external forums partnerships and collaborations with academic governmental and non-governmental entities.
• Support fundraising and proposal development through technical contributions and representation to donors.

Qualifications

Required:

• Medical degree (MD DO or equivalent) board certification in a relevant specialty and an active medical license to practice in one or more US states.
• Minimum of 10 years of clinical and programmatic experience in global health or public health practice including experience in low- and middle-income countries.
• Demonstrated leadership in multidisciplinary teams and collaboration across sectors.
• Experience in applied research (e.g. epidemiology implementation science clinical trials).
• Strong commitment to equity sustainability and innovation in global health.
• Track record of publications and engagement with international research collaborations.

Preferred:

• Advanced degree (MPH MSc PhD) in Public Health Epidemiology or a related field.
• Experience with renewable energy applications in health systems.
• Excellent communication and representation skills.
