Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery improvement research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026 Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service Peninsula Health Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health a newly merged health service with more than 22000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce providing new training education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026 all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
Applications are invited for Professor and Director Molecular Imaging Research to work Full Time at Alfred Health and Monash University.
The Nuclear Medicine and PET Department at Alfred Health provides a comprehensive range of nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic services including positron emission tomography (PET) for inpatients and outpatients. The department includes a team of nuclear medicine specialists nuclear medicine technologists cardiac technologists clerical staff and physicists.
The Professor and Director Molecular Imaging Research will oversee the research for Molecular Imaging PET and theranostics and include the recruitment of researchers and development of a comprehensive high level academic research program. The Director is a member of the Senior Medical Staff of Alfred Health and undertakes a key clinical leadership role within Alfred Health.
The successful candidate will be jointly accountable to the Program Director Radiology and Nuclear Medicine for provision of a high level comprehensive academic research program in molecular imaging and theranostics development but also to the Head of Central Clinical School for the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences for research teaching and administrative duties relevant to Monash University.
The role calls for a visionary leader and accomplished manager with a knowledge of and interest in relevant technology. Ideally they will also possess a national/international reputation for academic excellence as evidenced by publications grants and other scholarly achievements.
