Main Responsibilities
- Research policy analysis and drafting
- Carry out high-quality policy research on emerging issues affecting in Africa Europe and the Middle East. Use quantitative methods to undertake analysis of the impact of socio-economic policies. Empirical analysis and evaluations of policies in national and comparative settings.
- Contributing to the Units analyses on the topics of investment and infrastructure for regional integration and sustainable development in Africa including investment ecosystem mapping of specific fast-growing sectors.
- Contribute to the coordination of the work program publications reports and working papers of the Africa Unit including the AVIP and the ASQIIA projects.
- Draft notes and any briefs for senior officials related to relevant policy issues on the African continent.
- Support junior staff guiding their work and providing feedback
- Data collection and Dataset Management:
- Collect and compile data and other information on economic trends and issues in African countries.
- Convert national data into specialised OECD formats employing advanced analytical calculations and data manipulation techniques. Uphold data quality by ensuring relevance accuracy accessibility interpretability and coherence resolving anomalies collaboratively with national administrations or alternative sources.
- Oversee statistical databases across various activities ensuring international comparability through adept management of methodological changes.
- Assess gaps in data and information availability and propose ways to address such gaps enhancing data coverage timeliness and relevance.
- Research new data and sources to augment database coverage contributing to continuous improvement and efficiency in data collection and processing.
- Liaison and outreach
- Participate in discussions in expert groups and assist in organising meetings seminars workshops and conferences related to the work of the Europe Middle East and Africa Desk.
- Liaise with projects focal points within national statistical offices national authorities and other data producers to ensure smooth and timely collection of data.
- Liaise and collaborate with projects partners and other groups in the OECD working on related issues.
- Other duties
- Contribute to drafting project proposals to support fundraising strategies.
- Collaborate effectively with other colleagues and contribute as required to horizontal and multidisciplinary projects and other outputs of the DEV and the OECD.
- Keep abreast of new research exploratory work and policies of relevance to DEVs work emanating from governments other international organisations non-governmental organisations academia and the private sector.
- Respond to internal or external requests for information.
Qualifications :
Academic Background:
- An advanced university degree in economics. or relevant related fields.
- Good knowledge of macroeconomic policy and quantitatives methods is required
- A specialisation on development infrastructure international trade or industrial development would be key assets.
Professional experience
- A minimum of two years experience in applied economic research.
- Proven record of analytical work in particular applied economic analysis (analytical reports and/or published papers).
- Excellent analytical and drafting skills the ability to meet tight deadlines multi-task and to produce concise top-quality work at strategic and operational levels.
- A broad knowledge of the current debates on investment and development.
Technical Competencies:
- Proficiency in the use of standard software applications (MS Office).
- Demonstrated experience in the handling of data sources econometric techniques and the use of data analytics software (Stata R Python Excel VBA etc.) are required.
