The Patient Education SpecialistCapacity Building helps create a culture of health literacy and patient engagement in care across UHN. The Specialist delivers and develops training for all levels of clinicians and staff at UHN at all hospitals with the goal of embedding patient engagement care practices into daily care.
The key responsibilities of this role include: delivering instructor-led training classes on skills related to patient education and engagement in care virtually and in person at UHN hospitals; using project management methodology and collaborating with project teams and subject matter experts to design develop and implement training programs; developing and maintaining online learning and patient education support strategies; monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of training programs; and providing education consultation services and support to project teams across Patient Experience.
Duties
- Delivers effective training and educational support for topics related to patient education and engagement care practices
- Plans designs develops and maintains training program curriculum and documentation for Patient Education and topics related to Patient Experience.
- Uses strong knowledge of principles of health and digital literacy health promotion and prevention self-management and self-care.
- Provides quality customer service in delivery of Educational services through operational effectiveness.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of training programs.
- Effectively perform lead roles as assigned e.g. Committee participation or chairing subject matter expertise in learning or patient experience.
Qualifications :
- Completion of an undergraduate degree program in Adult Education a health-related field or a combination of education/experience related to education communication or health education or recognized equivalent
- Four years of relevant experience
- Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting with interprofessional teams
- Demonstrated experience and skill in curriculum design and delivery including ability to develop content and delivery formats and deliver content in an engaging manner
- Demonstrated experience with instructional design and project management
- Clinical background an asset
- Experience working with Epic EMR an asset
