Position Title: Wig Shop Lead
Department: Costume Department
Position Summary:
Be a part of the Costume Department Team for Tuacahn in Ivins Utah! Work with the Costume Shop Supervisor and Crafts Shop Supervisor to make the designs of the Wig and Costume Designers come to life on stage in the middle of the gorgeous red rocks of Padre Canyon. We are currently hiring a wig shop to work on our winter production of Elf: The Musical. During the build period you would be responsible for leading the wig shop to alter and style all the wigs per the designs from the Wig designer for every cast member. Youll get to pass on your expertise to others by guiding and instructing your wig shop staff through their assigned projects as needed. The paperwork you help create and keep updated like wig style manuals is essential for the wig shop and hair and makeup run crews to do their jobs. Youll attend tech as needed to help facilitate the finishing details and any changes that need to happen before the show opens. This position is seasonal but we are searching for a good fit for a year round staff member. The following is an overview of what we expect the seasonal hire: -The wig shop may need some organizing depending on your workflow -Work with the Wig Designer to complete the build for Elf -Keep track of any wigs we may rent from others making sure they are taken care of correctly -Inspect and repair wigs as needed -Be a part of the collaborative workforce of the costume department and the whole theatre. |
Skills needed:
- Cutting washing blocking roller setting and styling of wigs
- Ventilating and re-fronting wigs
- Wig Repair
- Use and care of all tools needed for wig creation altering styling and etc. (ventilating hooks wig dryers wig heads steamers etc.)
- Wig identification/cataloging
- Working knowledge of hand and machine stitching techniques for wigs
- Demonstrable knowledge of/and experience in a variety of wig styles and maintenance techniques
- Paperwork creation including but not limited to: Wig style guides Wig Manual (bible) Wig show lists
- Ability to teach/guide wig shop personnel in all of the above
- Leading and maintaining a professional wig shop work environment
- Organization time management/project planning
- Communicating clearly with others
- Google suite (Drive docs sheets etc.)
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work outside in a desert climate (though our build facilities are located indoors)
- Ability to listen take instruction and to participate in a team to complete the assigned tasks
- Ability to lift 20 lbs
- Ability to work with performers and staff in a positive and professional manner while on campus at all times
- Clean and maintain all spaces daily

Required Qualifications:
- Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and maintain a safe work environment
- Cosmetology license
- 5 years of professional wig and theatre experience

Bonus Qualifications:
- 10 years of professional wig and theatre experience
|
