Position Summary
Harness is seeking a Lead/Staff Software Engineer to join our Agent and Data Collection team. This team forms the foundation of the Appsec platform building high-performance systems that extract API data from diverse environments using eBPF traffic mirroring API gateway policies and language agents. You will solve challenging systems and networking problems designing resilient solutions that power Traceables API security platform at scale. About the role
- Design and build advanced data collection agents and pipelines in Go C and Java.
- Develop scalable mechanisms for extracting API traffic across cloud-native on-prem and hybrid environments.
- Work across the stack: Linux internals networking protocols (TCP UDP HTTP/1.1 HTTP/2 HTTP/3 gRPC TLS) and system performance.
- Contribute to policies for API Gateways and load balancers (F5 Citrix ADC Avi Arista).
- Optimize for performance reliability and low-overhead data collection at scale.
- Partner with Security Research and Platform teams to deliver secure production-grade solutions.
- Contribute to open-source projects where relevant and represent Traceable in the engineering community.
- Mentor junior engineers and influence technical direction within the team.
About you
- 7 years of software engineering experience with strong command of Go C and Java.
- Deep knowledge of data structures algorithms and system fundamentals (process memory CPU containers cgroups filesystems).
- Strong hands-on experience with Linux networking and debugging tools (e.g. tcpdump wireshark).
- Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS Azure or GCP) and infrastructure setup (VPC load balancers auto scaling compute instances).
- Experience with Docker Kubernetes and distributed cloud-native systems.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills including diagnosing non-code issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; proven ability to work independently.
- Track record of mentoring or leading engineers in a team setting.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior experience writing security policies for API gateways or load balancers.
- Contributions to open-source projects.
- Hands-on exposure to networking devices such as F5 BigIP Citrix ADC Avi or Arista.
Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and modern observability tools.
