Laboratory Safety Technologist
Position Summary
This position is primarily responsible for conducting fume hood and local exhaust ventilation testing as well as calibration and maintenance of air monitoring equipment and personal protective equipment. Will also provide support for all aspects of Environmental Health and Safety including radiation chemical and biological safety programs and operations; collect and report on compliance data; maintain testing and calibration files and documentation; and assist in maintaining compliance with federal and state licenses and permits safety rules regulations and guidelines. This position requires attention to detail strong communication and interpersonal skills critical thinking time management adaptability and willingness to learn. The successful employee will have the ability to work both independently and within a team to support research laboratories in efforts to promote a safety culture throughout the University.
Minimum Requirements
- Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired by completing a four - year degree in science engineering industrial hygiene or related field
- Six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in laboratory safety safe experimental design and/or facility compliance inspector
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong understanding of airflow dynamics and ventilation principles
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals blueprints and regulatory documents
- Valid vehicle operators license at time of hire
Desired Qualifications
- Certification or training in fume hood testing (e.g. ANSI/ASHRAE 110) highly desirable.
- Experience in quality control measures gas detection sensor technology laboratory safety HVAC systems or industrial hygiene preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Relationship building
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
