Job Summary

Position Summary: The Media Center Educational Paraprofessional supports the daily operations of the school library and assists in managing instructional and technology resources for students and staff. Responsibilities include before- and after-school crossing guard duties maintaining library and technology inventories operating the Destiny Library Management System assisting with PowerSchool-related student information tasks and promoting a safe organized and student-centered learning environment.

Reports To: Building Principal and/or Director of Curriculum & Educational Services

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Library Technology and Instructional Support

  • Operate and maintain the Destiny Library Management System to check in/out books teacher materials student laptops and instructional resources.
  • Assist students and staff in locating selecting and using library and digital learning materials.
  • Manage and maintain the school library collection including shelving labeling repairing and conducting inventory of materials.
  • Maintain technology inventories including laptops desktop computers classroom audio enhancement systems and other instructional technology assigned to classrooms or the media center.
  • Track and monitor the condition and location of instructional technology performing basic troubleshooting and assisting with minor repairs or device issues.
  • Assist with PowerSchool-related tasks such as verifying student information updating media center usage records and coordinating technology check-out records with student data.
  • Support teachers with the reservation circulation and return of classroom technology and instructional materials.
  • Maintain a clean organized and welcoming media center that promotes reading research and responsible technology use.
  • Assist students and staff in using library databases digital resources and online learning tools.
  • Maintain accurate records reports and documentation as required.

Crossing Guard and Student Supervision Duties

  • Serve as a before-school and after-school crossing guard ensuring the safety of students crossing streets and entering/exiting school grounds.
  • Monitor student behavior and enforce safety procedures at crosswalks and building entry points.
  • Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to the principal or designee.
  • Assist with supervision of students in the media center and other assigned areas as needed.

Professional Conduct and Communication

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all district policies procedures and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students staff and families.
  • Participate in meetings trainings and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal or designee.

Hours Wages and Working Conditions

  • Hours and Schedule: Work hours schedule and calendar year shall be consistent with the collective bargaining agreement between Richmond Community Schools and Teamsters Local 214/Educational Paraprofessionals. Typical hours align with the regular school day including additional time before and after school for crossing guard duties.
  • Wages: Compensation will be in accordance with the wage schedule established in the collective bargaining agreement between Richmond Community Schools and Teamsters Local 214. Placement on the wage scale will be determined by experience and applicable contract provisions. Step increases longevity pay and other compensation adjustments will follow the terms of the agreement.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Work is performed primarily in a school media center and office setting with outdoor duties during before- and after-school crossing guard times.
    • Must be able to stand walk lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
    • Regular interaction with students staff and community members is required.
    • Position is eligible for all benefits leave provisions and protections outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
    • Safety and operational procedures shall comply with district and contractual guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree or 60 college credits preferred.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
  • Proficiency with Destiny Library Management System PowerSchool Microsoft Office and Google Workspace required or ability to learn.
  • Ability to maintain and manage technology inventories and perform basic troubleshooting on laptops computers and classroom audio enhancement systems.
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
