Overview:
FMC has an immediate opening in the Discovery Chemistry Group for a motivated Associate Chemist at Stine Research Center in Newark DE. The Discovery Chemistry organization employs synthetic organic chemists to design and synthesize new high-performance crop protection molecules that may lead to new commercial products. We are seeking applicants with expertise in synthetic organic chemistry. Candidates will have a strong background in laboratory-based work with a solid knowledge of separation techniques and spectroscopic identification approaches. The successful candidate will work independently and under the supervision of a Principal Investigator on projects related to the discovery optimization and characterization of safe and sustainable new technologies for global agriculture.
Basic Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry
- Exceptional laboratory skills including expertise in modern separation methods (e.g. MPLC HPLC) and characterization techniques (e.g. NMR MS/MS LC/MS GC/MS & IR) for the synthesis of complex targets
- Ability to carry out multi-step synthetic sequences to deliver analytically pure material for biological testing
- Ability to collaborate effectively and work in teams of scientists including working closely with a Principal Investigator
Required Education
- BS or MS in Chemistry or related field with a strong background in organic synthesis is required. Further industrial work experience is desirable
