Staff Nurses Cardiac Cath Lab Tallaght University Hospital

Part time 19.5 hours

Are you a dedicated and passionate Staff Nurse looking to make a change in your career and gain more experience We are currently looking for one Staff Nurse to transfer to our Cardiac Cath Lab department where there is one post of 19.5 hours available.

Qualifications & Experience

Must have:

Be a current Staff Nurse employed by Tallaght University Hospital
Be a Member of the General Division of the active register of the Nursing and Midwifery board of Ireland.
Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development at the appropriate level.
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Minimum 2 years experience in acute care or cardiology sector.
Have a clinical and administrative capability to properly discharge the functions of the role.
Have a willingness to pursue further education in the area of Cardiology.

Specifics for Cardiac Cath Lab Day Ward:

Pre-assess patients for Cardiac Cath Lab procedures.
Admit and prepare patients for Cardiac day procedures Coronary angiograms Device implant and removal.
Recover and manage patients post Cardiac procedures.
Recognise and manage any adverse effects or critical incidents post procedure.
Provide appropriate education to patients and their families.
Ensure that the patient is reviewed by the cardiac registrar prior to discharge.
Ensure that the patient is fully aware of any medication change or future appointments before discharge.
Complete all documentation.
Discharge patients on iPIMs.
Following cleaning protocol at end of each day.

Specific to Cardiac Cath Lab Procedures:

Prepare for procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab Department organisation and management of daily lists liaising with referring doctors and ward staff to ensure pre-procedural work is completed i.e. relevant documentation blood reports and medication therapy.
Prepare equipment for the safe care of the patient during the procedure.
Ensure the patients identification has been verified.
Confirm that the patient has given informed consent and where appropriate signed the consent form.
Communicate with other members of the Cardiac Cath Lab team regarding the correct patient and correct procedure during TIME OUT.
Administration of prescribed intravenous sedation and analgesia as per local policy.
Identify potential complications of various drugs used during the procedure including contrast.
Assess plan and implement the total care of the conscious or sedated patient. This includes the monitoring of vital signs and intravenous fluid therapy.
Identify and manage critical incidents during the procedure in conjunction with the Cardiac Cath Lab team.
Maintenance of nursing documentation pre and post procedure.
Inform the CCU/ward nurses of the necessary care of the patient following a procedure.
Follow cleaning protocol at end of each day.
