JOB SUMMARY: The Teen Center Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Teen Center at the Boys & Girls Club of Brookings focusing on cultivating a positive inclusive and engaging atmosphere for youth aged 12-18. This position requires planning implementing and managing programs aimed at promoting the personal academic and social development of teens. The Teen Director will need to ensure that the Teen Center provides a safe and supportive environment for teens to develop important life skills build meaningful relationships and prepare for their future success. Strong leadership organizational skills and a passion for youth development along with a commitment to the values and mission of the Boys & Girls Club are essential for this role. JOB DUTIES: - Lead manage and supervise Teen Center staff and volunteers.
- Provide guidance mentorship and conflict resolution for Club members ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all teens.
- Develop and implement programs that promote academic success character and leadership health & wellbeing and life & workforce readiness for teens.
- Lead the hiring process supervision performance evaluation and when necessary discipline of all assigned teen center staff members.
- Supervise the Youth Diversion Coordinator and foster a collaborative relationship with the Brookings County States Attorneys Office.
- Oversee the operations of Bobcat Plains Academy (BPA) and maintain a strong partnership with the Brookings School District to ensure seamless BPA programming in collaboration with the Teen Center.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and adjust to meet the evolving needs of Club members.
- Coordinate special events activities and field trips that provide enriching experiences for teens.
- Recruit train and supervise staff volunteers and interns working in the Teen Center.
- Supervise assigned employees which includes conducting regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for staff.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork accountability and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with school staff and community partners to provide holistic support for teens educational and social needs.
- Uphold and enforce Club safety policies and procedures including behavior management protocols.
- Maintain appropriate ratios of staff to teens ensuring compliance with Boys & Girls Club standard requirements.
- Build strong positive relationships with teens serving as a mentor and role model.
- Develop recruitment strategies to increase membership and ensure consistent attendance and participation.
- Help coordinate and/or lead new member orientations as needed.
- Address member concerns and conflicts in a timely and effective manner fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity.
- Oversight of all major discipline and guidance challenges that arise at the Club including appropriate documentation.
- Ensure and management Club policies of behavior special needs youth success plans and safety are created and followed per Club policies and procedures.
- Manage the Teen Center budget including program supplies grant monies staffing materials and equipment.
- Implement and provide oversight for all grants and ensure all programs meet requirements and deadlines including appropriate documentation.
- Facilitate and attend Club training including the monthly staff meetings.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents guardians and community members
- Advocate for teens within the community fostering a network of support for youth development initiatives.
- Complete the annual Boys & Girls Club of America Impact Assessment.
- Manage and provide leadership for the Youth of the Year Program including collaboration with Elementary Staff and or Teen Center staff to oversee the Jr. Youth of the Year Program.
- Oversee recruitment and marketing efforts. Responsible for program updates in newsletters publications etc.
- On snow and unexpected full days covering all shifts to ensure the Club can open.
- Responsible for working in collaboration with other community groups to enhance services.
- Implement and manage the NYOI youth and staff survey process for the site.
- Other duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelors degree in youth development education social work or a related field (preferred)
- Experience working with youth of ages 12-18.
- 3-5 years of experience working with teens in a leadership or program management capacity.
- At least 2 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience overseeing staff volunteers or program participants with demonstrated ability to lead train provide performance feedback manage schedules and conflict and foster a positive team culture.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement youth programs.
- Strong and professional leadership communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of adolescent development and experience in mentoring and motivating youth.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and program management software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM Monday-Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for special events or programs.
- Must be able to understand implement and demonstrate principles of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities per the Club trainings and values of fun supportive relationships recognition opportunities and expectations and safety.
- Must be able to provide leadership on-the-spot and reflective feedback and supervision to assigned employees to ensure they too understand and demonstrate principals of behavior management and other youth treatment modalities per the Club trainings and values of fun supportive relationships recognition opportunities and expectations and safety.
